Spurs To Target Impressive PL Youngster To Solve Defensive Concerns – Report

|

Back during the summer transfer window, the rumour mill had Tottenham Hotspur reasonably heavily linked with a move for Norwich City youngster Max Aarons, and with the January window fast approaching we’re now being linked with another of their defenders – Ben Godfrey.

Following the sale of Kieran Trippier, links to right back Aarons made all the sense in the world from a Spurs point of view, and with the ongoing speculation about the futures of both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, it’s now being suggested that having impressed in the Premier League following their promotion, Godfrey has now caught our attention.

The 21-year-old has progressed well after leaving York City for Carrow Road and after a successful spell at Shrewsbury Town, he now has over 50 appearances to his name for the side, and having played a key role in their promotion last season, he’s now got 14 top flight showings under his belt and he continues to impress.

If the rumour is right, Spurs would need to shell out in the region of £20-25million for him as he signed a new five year deal over the summer, but much like during Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the club, it seems like Jose Mourinho’s remit is to develop players rather than signings that will take us to the next level – and if that’s true – Godfrey appears to tick a number of boxes.
